Train delays have caused major delays in New York City, where Amtrak is expected to close two trains and cancel several other service for up to an hour Monday, according to the New York Post.
Amtrak tweeted that the two-hour delay is expected on the third and fourth lines.
It is the latest in a string of major delays to hit the region, and the second to occur in less than two weeks.
Amtrak is scheduled to run service between New York and Boston for a total of eight hours from 4 p.m.
ET Monday through 7 p.ms.
New York Gov.
Andrew Cuomo said in a statement that the train delays are a “major disappointment.”
Cuomo said the state is “very concerned about the impact of this derailment on our public transportation system.”
Train service was temporarily suspended on two routes in the region as a precaution.
Cuomo said Amtrak is working with the Federal Railroad Administration and the New Jersey Department of Transportation to determine the cause of the derailment.
“This is an extremely serious incident and Amtrak is coordinating closely with the New England Regional Transportation Authority and the Federal Aviation Administration,” Cuomo said.
Amtrak has suspended all service between Boston and New York from 6 a.m.-7 p.pm ET Monday and Tuesday.
Amtrak says it is working to reopen as soon as possible.
Amtrak’s train system is already strained by a series of delays caused by a weekend derailment of a train in Philadelphia.
Officials say a man was arrested Sunday after a fire aboard a train caused a derailment and a fire that damaged the track.
Amtrak was expected to resume services Tuesday on the two routes but officials have not yet announced when.
Train service between Philadelphia and New Jersey was also temporarily suspended after a second train derailment in New Jersey caused an Amtrak derailments at the same location, forcing the train to be shut down.
Train operators in Philadelphia reported that the derailments happened about 2 p.r.m., according to CBS Philadelphia.
The Amtrak service between Washington, D.C., and Philadelphia was temporarily shut down at the New Holland station.
Amtrak trains from Philadelphia were also affected by a derailments on Monday.
